Shortcut: V

The "Move Tool" is used to move the position of your photos 

Shortcut: M

The "Rectangular Marquee Tool" is used to select an area in the shape of a rectangle. If you hold down the button for the tool in the toolbar more shapes will become available.

Shortcut: L

The "Lasso Tool" is used to freely create a selection. Once you create a selection you can freely move it around without having to choose the "Move Tool". If you click and hold the "Lasso Tool" in the toolbar more options will become available. The "Polygonal Lasso Tool" and the "Magnetic Lasso Tool".

Shortcut: L

The "Polygonal Lasso Tool" creates straight lines between two points that you click which then turns it into a selection

Shortcut: L

The "Magnetic Lasso Tool" automatically detects the edges of the subject you're trying to cut out. You just need to hover over the edges which then gets turned into a selection

Shortcut: W

The "Quick Selection Tool" is used to create a selection. It is like the "Brush Tool" but it automatically tries to detect the edges of your subject. When holding down the "Alt" key this will remove the part you click from the selection. If you click and hold the "Quick Selection Tool" the "Magic Wand Tool" will also be available

Shortcut: W

The "Magic Wand Tool" is used to create a selection. Once you click on an area it will select the whole area until it meets an edge. This tool works better if the image has high contrast. You can also increase or decrease the tolerance to achieve different results

Shortcut: C

The "Crop Tool" is used to remove edges of your photo that you do not need. To use it you drag the corners of your image or click and drag selecting the part of your image you want to keep

Shortcut: I

The "Eyedropper Tool" is used to select the exact color that is included in your composition. To use it you click on the color you want to select

Shortcut: J

The "Spot Healing Tool" is used to remove pimples and blackheads. This is a really easy tool to use all you do is paint with the tool on top of the pimple you want to remove and Photoshop will do the work for you. If you click and hold the "Spot Healing Tool" in the toolbar more options will become available, one of which is the "Healing Brush Tool". With this tool selected hold down "Alt" and click on your image to sample that part and then you can apply the sample at another position in the image. It will automatically blend it for you   

Shortcut: B

This tool lets you paint on your composition. If you hold down the "Brush Tool" button in the toolbar more options will become available such as "Pencil Tool" which gives your brush a pencil texture and the "Color Replacement Tool" which changes the color of the object you are painting to the color you have chosen. 

Shortcut: S

The "Clone Stamp Tool" is used to copy one part of the image and paste it in another place. To use the tool hold down "Alt" and click on the place you want to sample (copy). Then let go of the "Alt" and then click on the place you want to place it

Shortcut: E

The "Eraser Tool" simply erases whatever you select. If you hold the "Eraser Tool" button in the toolbar menu then more options will become available, the "Background Eraser Tool" and the "Magic Eraser Tool"

This tool allows you to freely erase without having to be precise and it will automatically remove the background for you

This tool acts like the "Magic Wand Tool" but automatically 

Shortcut: G

This tool allows you to create a gradual blend between multiple colors. If you hold down the button for this tool in the toolbar more options will appear such as the "Paint Bucket Tool"

Shortcut: G

This tool lets you paint your entire selection with a color of your liking with just a click. If you don't have a selection active then Photoshop will automatically find the edges of your photo for you and color them in

Shortcut: No Shortcut

This tool blurs the part of the image you paint over. The more you paint over the more it will blur it. If you hold down the button for this tool in the toolbar more tools will appear such as "Sharpen Tool" and the "Smudge Tool"

Shortcut: No Shortcut

This tool sharpens the part of the image you paint over. It increases the contrast of that part of the image. The more you paint over the sharper that part will be

This tool smudges parts of your image together. It blends the part of the image you select together. 

Shortcut: O

This tool creates a highlight on the part you paint over. If you hold down the "Dodge Tool" in the toolbar then more tools will become available for you such as the "Burn Tool" and the "Sponge Tool"

This tool is mostly used to create shadows. It gives the area you paint over a burn effect

Shortcut: O

This tool can saturate or desaturate the area you paint over. You can choose whether it saturates or desaturates in the navigation bar at the top

Shortcut: P

The "Pen Tool" is used to precisely customize your selection. Clicking on point A and then on point B will join those 2 points together by making a line. If you click and drag then you can customize a curve. 

Shortcut: T

This tool allows you to add text going horizontally onto your image. You can also customize the font and sizing of your text. If you want to add text going vertically you can use the "Vertical Type Tool" which is one of the options available if you hold down the "Type Tool" button in the toolbar

Shortcut: U

There are many different shape tools. In the toolbar the default shape is the rectangle but you can choose other shapes by pressing and holding the rectangle shape tool. There will also be an option to create your own custom shape tool 

Shortcut: H

This tool is used to maneuver around the image freely. This only works if you are zoomed in the image 

Shortcut: R

This tool is used to rotate your canvas

Shortcut: Z

This tool is used to zoom in and out of your image. You can also use the shortcut "Alt+Scroll Wheel" to also easily zoom in and out of your image without having to select the zoom tool
